Loza Maleombho Ivoirien Fashion Designer

Loza Maleombho - Côte d'Ivoire 🇨🇮


Loza Maléombho's upbringing in Brazil and Abidjan has profoundly shaped her journey as a fashion designer. Educated in the United States, she honed her artistic flair and completed her studies in Philadelphia in 2006. With experience from New York's iconic fashion houses and a keen understanding of the industry, she returned to Côte d'Ivoire in 2009 for more incredible inspiration and a better quality of life. Loza's design philosophy centers on cultural resonance, weaving multiple traditions inspired by West African royalty.

Loza Maléombho's label seamlessly blends contemporary and traditional aesthetics, showcased at prestigious fashion weeks, and extends to uniquely crafted footwear adorned with African mask motifs.

Collaborating with generational artisans, Loza's designs merge expertise with her ingenuity, establishing a sustainable platform that uplifts local artisans. Her journey, underscored by Beyoncé featuring her creation in the "Black is King" video, is a testament to her commitment to empowerment and preserving culture through resonant design.





Laduma Ngxokolo South African Designer

Laduma Ngxokolo - South Africa 🇿🇦


Laduma Ngxokolo, hailing from Port Elizabeth, initially encountered textile design while studying at Lawson Brown High School in 2003. He displayed a natural talent for knitwear design and earned scholarships from Cape Wools South Africa and Mohair South Africa during his Btech studies at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2010.

That same year, he triumphed in the South African national round of the South African Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) Design Competition, leading to a global victory in London. His winning entry, "The Colourful World of the Xhosa Culture," featured men's knitwear inspired by traditional Xhosa beadwork. Laduma Ngxokolo's luminous journey as a designer and entrepreneur is etched in the global fashion landscape. He founded Maxhosa AFRICA, a groundbreaking South African brand, which has achieved international acclaim, including invitations to the prestigious New York Fashion Week. Laduma's designs have earned admiration and found their place in esteemed institutions like the SMITHSONIAN Museum and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York, resonating across continents. His story is a source of inspiration, highlighting the evolution of African design, and his impact on the fashion realm attests to his exceptional creativity, reshaping industry norms.






Lisa Folawiyo Nigerian Designer

Lisa Folawiyo - Nigeria 🇳🇬


Lisa Folawiyo, a revered figure in Nigerian fashion, is known for her lavish approach to women's ready-to-wear and accessories. Vibrant, imaginative combinations of Ankara-inspired prints, contemporary tailoring, and intricate embellishments characterize her designs. These elements combine to create a stylish collection of feminine silhouettes infused with a distinctive West African charm. Originating from Lagos, Lisa Folawiyo's journey into the fashion world began unexpectedly after pursuing a law degree at the University of Lagos. In 2005, she founded her brand, Jewel by Lisa, with a modest investment, collaborating with her mother to create her first pieces from just 12 yards of fabric.

The reach of her designs transcends geographical confines, with her creations gracing renowned figures. A pivotal juncture in her journey arrived in 2012 when she secured a feature in Vogue Italia, an emblem of her ascending prominence on the global fashion stage. Lisa Folawiyo has reshaped the contours of African fashion with remarkable talent. Her deft skill seamlessly melds traditional West African textiles, such as Ankara and Aso Oke, with contemporary silhouettes and embellishments. Lisa's creations have graced international red carpets and earned her a coveted spot on esteemed fashion platforms.






Katungulu Mwendwa Kenyan Designer

Katungulu Mwendwa - Kenya 🇰🇪


Katungulu Mwendwa is a highly skilled fashion designer who significantly impacts Kenya's fashion scene with her African-inspired creations. Raised in Nairobi amidst a supportive family, including a musician father, architect mother, psychologist plant enthusiast, and her tech-savvy brother and close friend, her upbringing was influenced by her grandmother's interactions with local artisans. Fueled by a deep connection to Kenya, she returned after her fashion studies in London to establish a contemporary fashion line, achieving recognition at events like New York Fashion Week.

Her designs reflect a fusion of traditional and modern elements, bridging the gap between two worlds. Beyond fashion, Katungulu envisions a broader influence. Her journey is an inspiring example for aspiring designers, marked by passion, dedication, and the pursuit of a unique African fashion identity. The African continent is a wellspring of innovation, reflected in its rich cultural diversity and dynamic fashion landscape. African designers have risen to global prominence, blending traditional techniques with modern styles to create a seamless fusion of heritage and innovation.
